The opening of the 30th Duisburg "AKZENTE" in the "Kraftzentrale" was among the best of the festival steeped in tradition ...The initially jovial pushing of the audience, who were seated on mobile platforms, was reminiscent of a merry-go-round, and held a bitterly evil connotation: We "played" the soldiers who are deployed repeatedly as troops... The directors of the Freiburg action theatre group, Sigrun Fritsch and Ralf Buron, pulled all stops to turn the mixture of folly and earnest that Glass and world-renowned stage artist Robert Wilson had in mind into a reality...

...a floor installation in Freiburg’s “Alte Stadthalle” on the misery of the terrain with mines everywhere draws attention to the underground horror. In the piece, however, the theme is more elevated, heroes such as Hercules, Lincoln, his wife, Garibaldi and even Confederate General Lee are conjured, brought into mythical contact with mother earth, German, Italian and Latin texts are sung, sublimely mystical murmuring is evoked, a cosmic call for peace instead of historical-political reality or even just psychological intensification: late epic music theatre...
