...about PAN.OPTIKUM

With performances of short Baroque operas by Monteverdi and “Winterreise” (“Winter Journey”) by Franz Schubert – together with the Freiburger Barockorchester – PAN.OPTIKUM broadens its scope and has also been the subject of much talk on many occasions with extraordinary indoor productions. (Philip Glass- the Civil warS, Theater Freiburg 2004, Orpheus - RuhrTriennale 2004, Medea. Stimmen Freiburg 2007).

However, the ensemble is known for its large-scale urban performances, e.g. Il Corso (Kunstfest Weimar 2001) and BallGefühl (a production for the Football World Cup 2006). These performances, which were created for several thousand people, integrate the audience in a unique way by getting rid of the space that separates the spectators from the stage. In addition to the purely aesthetic approach, this is a form of theatre which permits every single spectator to freely choose his/her own vantage points during the performance itself so that different perspectives are possible.

PAN.OPTIKUM won many prizes for its work, n 1993 was named best street theatre at the festival in Venice. In January 2005 PAN.OPTIKUM was invited to Santiago / Chile with IL CORSO as a representative of German theatre culture.
