PRODUCTIONS FOR SPECIFIC SITES
Site-specific and site-responsive productions, often developed for public spaces, are a central part of PAN.OPTIKUM’s artistic practice.
The locations themselves, whether urban, industrial, or shaped by nature, are not simply used as settings but are actively integrated into the dramaturgy and visual language of each work.
Social and political themes frequently influence the performances and become intertwined with the site’s history or atmosphere.
Examples include:
Cambio and Zeit heilt alle Stunden in the former freight yard district of Freiburg-Brühl
Verwandlungen at Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord
and the site-specific performances created during the first phase of Power of Diversity in ten European partner cities
These productions demonstrate how strongly a location can influence the narrative, structure and perception of a piece, and how theatre can engage directly with its surroundings, history and social context.
