New community arts project WHO CARES? receives special funding from the State of Baden-Württemberg
With the project WHO CARES?, PAN.OPTIKUM will be present in Freiburg’s Güterbahnhof/Brühl district from mid-May to early August. The project combines artistic interventions in public space with opportunities for people from the neighbourhood to participate, followed by performances at the Lokhalle. At its core is the question of how care, attention, and shared responsibility can become tangible in a newly emerging urban district. We are very pleased that WHO CARES? is supported by the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts Baden-Württemberg as part of its project funding programme for professional private theatres. Further information about the project will soon be available on a dedicated project page here on our website. Information about the funding can also be found in the Ministry’s press release.

Three interactive objects are located throughout the district: the WITHIN WORDS, the BALANCE GAME, and the SOUND HEXAGON. They invite people to play and take part.
With the objects here in the district, we would like to invite you:
Look closely.
Try something out.
Tell us something.
Join in.
You don’t need any prior experience.
You don’t have to be a theater fan.
You don’t have to “be able” to do anything.
Just be curious.

WHAT IS WHO CARES?
What does CARE actually mean?
What do we understand by CARE?
Why did we choose this topic?
In a broad sense, CARE is everything we do to preserve our world. Everything we do to repair existing shortcomings and to ensure that we can continue living in our world in the future.
With our project WHO CARES?, we want to explore different perspectives on this topic.
What role can CARE play in a democratic society?
How do we define “responsibility of care” in the way we live together?
What role do art and culture play when we wish for care, responsibility, and cohesion?
How does our thinking change when we experience something together?

Join in and try out our BALANCE GAME, the WITHIN WORDS, and the SOUND HEXAGON! There, you can share your thoughts and opinions with us.
In July, we will invite you to a four-week exhibition in the Lokhalle, with various performances on the topic taking place on the weekends. You find the full calendar here below. At one of the events, you will also be able to take part yourself!
If you would like to stand on stage yourself, you can register for the dance workshops with our choreographer Luka Putniņa. For ages 14 and up. Just send us an email at: workshops@theater-panoptikum.de. You can also find more information about the CARE dance project HERE.
